Suddenly, at this late stage in my baking career, I find myself in need of extra 500g proving baskets. You think flour is hard to get hold of in the midst of the pandemic? You want to try proving baskets.
After the best part of a day chasing round the net trying to find baskets I coaxed my brain gradually into first gear. I had some Panibois (French wooden baking boxes) lurking around since Christmas breads plus a customer actually returned four. I also had an old sheet that I knew was going to come in handy one day from which I cut some squares.
Voila! The 65p 500g proving basket (and that’s if you are using new boxes).
The loaves come out nice and chunky, but that’s the way we like them. Better than £10.00 a pop.
