48 Years (is a long time)

This weekend Sue and I are celebrating 48 years of living together – Sunday 13th October is the day but, no need to be that specific, it’s Friday and we’re starting now with a little prepping …

Pain Niçoise

The bread was made yesterday already. Pain Niçoise packed with olives, sundried tomatoes, garlic, figs, herbs, and, a very old favourite, Brioche Provençale, a poor man’s brioche with cristalised fruits. Baguettes following this evening.

In the fridge is crab and plaice defrosting for tomorrow, not to mention a duck for Sunday. Might be a few other little treats – you never know …

      1. Hello Mick and Sue, thanks for your message. I’m still standing, (only just,) and still baking. It’s a long, boring story, but the shortened boring version is – I had cancer and had surgery to remove about two thirds of my oesophagus and about the same amount of my stomach in 2020. It’s made the life I was used to a bit different! Anyway, my consultant gastroenterologist advised – no bread, it forms into a dough-ball and sticks in what’s left of my oesophagus. And so I took his advice, (for a while.) But the bread I bake isn’t like the pappy stuff that I’m sure a lot of his patients eat, and I love it so much that after a while I started baking and eating it again – although not quite as much as I used to. So the answer is yes, I am still baking! Unfortunately though, I am no longer able to indulge in some of the other stuff that I have loved these last 50 plus years – spicey foods and red wine. BUT, I am still standing and enjoying life most of the time.

        All the best. Bob.

PS. Jacqui, who was 80 in March, celebrated by doing her first ever parachute jump!
