Craft Pizza, My Arse!

Had a couple of days in Bath, Sue’s home town, for the first time since Covid. Wandered round taking in the changes – complete new set of restaurants. Took the opportunity to do the bookshops and, of course, I head for the cookery section. No bread shelf in Waterstones but two pizza books.

Pull out one, because Craft Pizza by Maxine Clark sounds like the business. See it has a recipe for a Sourdough base.

I’ve seen some sourdough fakery in my time but, just to add sourdough breadcrumbs to your commercially yeasted dough and call it sourdough, beats all. And then to call your book “Craft Pizza” …

Where’s Inspector Young of Real Bread Enforcement when you need him? Sourdough September is coming to an end – should have plenty of time on his hands.

BUT – The best news in Bath on the pizza front is The Oven where I had one of the best pizzas ever – didn’t pretend to be sourdough – didn’t need to. Fabulous light, puffy crust from a wood-fired oven. Simple perfect topping – Fior di Latte, fresh figs, Palma ham, scattering of basil leaves …
